5 ways I *try* to stay motivated making art 😌

Disclaimer: No one is perfect. Art (like life) takes time to grow, evolve, and develop.

1. Get Out & Live Life

Lived Experiences deeply inspire my art; the good, the bad, and the ugly (cries) for real lol. I also love to people-watch, travel, and to be in nature. All of these things inspire and motivate me.

2. Visit Museums

This can be any museum (art, history, science). Gardens and architecture around NY/NJ are also great for inspiration. I love to explore the world (past and present), and often contemplate the future.

3. Meet Other Artists

I've been making a conscious effort to engage with artists in real life off of social media. I recommend going to local art shows, art fairs, and coffee shops to spark connections. As an introvert, its hard, but worth it!

4. Try New Things

The unknown terrifies me, but it also helps you grow 🌱 I recently talked to my first art gallery about my work (I was terrified!), but I learned so much from the experience.

5. Take Breaks

Balancing art, life, work, and everything going on in the world today is really hard. I stopped making art for a long time. I was worn out and uninspired. Now, I'm ready to create again. It's okay to rest.

Artists, let's talk about motivation for a sec - okay?

Sometimes its hard to stay motivated (especially when you're not seeing crazy growth) 🫠

But like art, things take time to evolve. There's a lot of trial and error involved behind the scenes.

Every step *big or small* matters. Every new piece or post has the chance to reach someone new, or reveal something new about yourself to your audience.

If you need some creative motivation this week, here are my top 3 tips:

1) Live Life - lived experiences (good or bad) fuel my own creative practice.

2) Visit Museums - art museums, history museums... explore the world (past and present), and contemplate the future.

3) Be Inspired by Other Artists - that's really easy to do on social media, but also make an effort to engage with artists in real life, too. Seek out free art events, submit to local art shows, and push yourself to make new connections.

Yesterday I attended the @remahortmannfund annual open house and left feeling inspired ✨️

With over 4 floors of contemporary art to explore and over 5,000 artworks on display, there's something new to discover around every corner.

The event is also for a great cause.

The Rema Hort Mann Fund is a non profit organization supporting cancer patients and emrgingartists.

If you missed yesterday, you can still attend tmrw (Thursday, May 13, 2026).

The biggest thing about being an artist is...

Having the courage to put yourself out there.

This really applies to any career or folks pursuing untraditional paths.

But especially for artists.

We face rejection everyday, from family (who don't get it) to friends and strangers online, and yes, even ourselves.

I'm my own wost critic 💯

However, challenging yourself to keep putting your work and yourself out there (even if it's a local café art show) can lead to new connections and future opportunities 🤞

In the wake of heartbreak, "I'm Still Here."

A reflection on first love, loss, and life after ❤️‍🩹

"I'm Still Here" is just one of many pieces from my ongoing series Body, Soul, Space (2020-), where I explore emotions through intimate self portraits.

Each piece serves as a visual diary where reflection can occur and emotions can be processed and *hopefully* released.

The process isn't easy. But I've found diving deeper into my feelings, rather than away from them, helps me move beyond them.

Last weekend, I had the honor of exhibiting my artwork at the @48hourgallery at @habibimotorcafe and it was such a special experience.

My name is Linda Wallentine, and "Body, Soul, Space" is my ongoing visual diary - a series of intimate self portraits made with oil pastel on canvas, exploring emotions.

I was so grateful to show not one but FOUR of my biggest pieces (the largest are 48"×48") for the first time publicly beyond IG and college crits.

Seeing them displayed together and watching people engage with my art in real time was truly incredible.

Stepping back into art feels right.

So grateful to have been a part of the fourth @48hourgallery art show @habibimotorcafe this past Friday and Saturday 🙏

I met so many amazing artists (emerging and professional) and all of them have inspired me to keep pursuing my passion.

It's never too late to pick up where you left off, or start again, or start over.

Stop 1: @breadalonebakery great for coffee ☕️ I tried their seasonal #maplelatte 🍁 (We went twice in the same day... think they were sick of us lol).

Stop 2: Lunch/brunch @shelterwoodstock 🍕 great for #pizza in their in-house oven, incredible empanadas, seasonal drinks (the spicy margarita was top notch!), and atmosphere. We sat right by the fire - so romantic 🥰

Stop 3: Dinner @silviawoodstockny 💕 This was our favorite restaurant by far foodwise! We had the local mushroom & pasta rags, steelhead trout, and shared the citrus olive oil cake 🤤 There was also so much art which really set the vibe for an intimate and cozy dining experience 🍽

Stop 4: Second dessert (because why not!) @sweetdreamsorganic 🍦#icecreamlover

One year of loving you ❤️ @stanleyluxx (and in the words of Michael Jackson, "Its getting better all the time").

We celebrated our first anniversary in the Catskills @autocamp earlier this month and we loved it!

It was the perfect escape in nature. With nearby hikes like #katerskillfalls (amazing photo ops at the top!) followed by cozy evenings in our Airstream, drinks at The Kitchen, and a home-cooked meal and s'mores over the fire, we got to unwind and celebrate our love our way.

We also explored the famous town of Woodstock - only a 10 minute drive from Autocamp. Stay tuned for part 2 ✨️
